~#WIPjoy Day 3: How do you get to know your characters?~

Good question.

I don’t do anything to specifically get to know them, like fill out a character bio or anything. I used to try to do that, but it feels so wooden to me. I just explore their personality and history through brainstorming, sound boarding to friends, and writing. By the time I start writing, I have a good grasp on them, but I always find out more as I write their story. I would have to say the most major thing I do that helps me get to know them is sound boarding with my friends. I get little ideas for scenes and interactions and I throw them at various friends in chat and they spazz with me and throw ideas back. It’s great.

(I’m skipping tomorrow’s prompt and in it’s place will be a Bullet Journal post.)

January 5th: How easy is this WIP to write?

  1. I like figuring out my character’s personalities like this too. :) Though usually I’ll fill out some sort of simple questionnaire, like about their appearance and maybe a few other prominent things too.
