dun dUN DUN. AUGUST IS HERE. HOW EVEN. LEAVES ARE STARTING TO FALL. IT’S 105 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND LIKE 115% HUMIDITY. 2016 IS GOING BY AT A RATHER FAST-ISH RATE.
Okay. I’m done screaming. For five minutes. Maybe.
SO. Since July is goooooone that means I have to recap ALL THE THINGS and things DEFINITELY happened this month.
Friday the 22nd – Monday the 25th, my family went on a smol road trip. My best friend from childhood’s brother got married in Kentucky so we drove there and went to church in Indiana on Sunday. I’d never been in Kentucky or Indiana before so those were new states. I’ve now been in a total of 27 states. We had such a fun time. (Side note: Kentucky heat//humidity is so many times worse than North Carolina heat//humidity. It was HORRIBLE.)
But I have to tell you about something that happened on Saturday when we stopped for lunch. My stepdad wanted to stop at White Castle, so we did, and while he ordered, Mama and I found a table. There was a deaf man ‘selling’ little sign language pamphlets with the signs for the alphabet and numbers for whatever price people wanted to pay (basically: a really sweet way of asking for money). Now, I know a few signs and the alphabet, so I signed ‘thank you’ to him.
Guys. His face lit up and he signed back to me, but I didn’t catch it and I TOTALLY forgot every other sign I knew because I was so excited. I resorted to finger spelling and spelled out “I only know a little bit”. HE WAS SMILING SO BIG. He gave me a thumbs up and shook my hand. It was such an amazing experience, I still get so happy and giddy when I think about it.
In Knoxville Tennessee where we stopped Friday night and Sunday night, we stayed at Mainstays hotel. I want to throw this out there: I am not being paid one crumb to say what I’m about to say. This hotel was so great that I have to sing its praises.
First of all: it’s an extended stay place (intended for business people and such who need a place to stay for a week or several weeks) so it has a full kitchen.
You did not read that wrong.
A full kitchen.
A full sized fridge, a dishwasher, a sink, a microwave, and a little two burner stove. Silverware in the drawers and the plates in the cabinets. A water pitcher in the fridge. A two cup measuring cup. Wash clothes and soap for the dishwasher.
All for $75 a night.
And I haven’t even mentioned the customer service or the free breakfast.
My stepdad can’t sleep laying down, so we need to have an armchair in our hotel room when we travel. Mama reserved a room that didn’t have a chair, even though she thought she had made sure to get one with one. Once we got into the room and saw there wasn’t a chair, I ran down to the front desk to tell them our problem. They moved us to an upgraded room at NO EXTRA COST and also fixed our reservation for the return trip.
The breakfast was hot and fresh, not just a continental like most hotels. There was sausage and scrambled eggs and biscuits and even rice.
Hotels can be a nightmare to stay in, between the cost and the hassle of it all, the customer service can be terrible or non-existent, and the breakfasts are usually borderline nasty. But Mainstays was literally a pleasure to stay at. Anytime I travel now I’m going to try to find a Mainstays if I need a hotel.
AND ONE MORE THING ABOUT THE TRIP BEFORE I SHUT UP AND MOVE ON: So the first night we got in early and Mama and I went off to find a Hobby Lobby. When we came back, my stepdad was riveted to the TV watching… Frozen.
He’d never seen it before and it was just a few minutes before Hans’s betrayal and I laughed soooo evilly and then watched my stepdad as the betrayal unfolded. HE WAS SO MAD AT HANS. And he was so happy when Anna punched him at the end. It was HILARIOUS to see him enjoying it. He now wants an Olaf plushie.
ALSO (okay this is more than one thing but still SEMI-related I promise) after Frozen was over we were channel flipping (we don’t have cable at home so we took advantage of it all three nights we were at hotels XD) AND WE FOUND THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM. There was about an hour left and we all watched it, including my mom (who hadn’t seen any of the Bourne movies before this. I have taken it as my personal responsibility to make sure she sees all three from start to finish). THEN the next night, we found The Bourne Identity and watched the last half of THAT. I joked with Wendy that the third night we better find Bourne Supremacy. We didn’t, but instead we found Charlotte’s Web, the original animated version that I watched 80 hundred times growing up. Do you realize how sad that movie is???? CHARLOTTE DIES AT THE END. IT’S TERRIBLE. I cried. Yes, I actually cried tears over a movie I’ve seen 200 times.
Okay I think I’m finally done with this section. Moving on.
So Zac and Katie and a million other Twitter people went to Realm Makers this past weekend and I was definitely not jealous.

(still incapable of embedding tweets. I tried so hard, guys.)
I spilled Frankincense on my Bible and Katie helped me decide whether it was funny or not. (her puns are so bad and hilarious)
@PickleTrinkets Thanks. XD Some people would be incensed about my puns…

INSTAGRAM SORT OF HAPPENED THIS MONTH I THINK. (I have a terrible memory so hang on, let me count my posts)
I POSTED EIGHT TIMES. THAT MIGHT BE A RECORD. Also hashtags work, guys. Use them.
(Can’t embed Instagram photos either. I think I just need to break down and get help)
I painted some cards with nail polish and they turned out really gorgeous, but when I mailed this one to a friend, she had to destroy the envelope and use a blow dryer to get it out, because the cheap polish stuck to the card even after it was ‘dry’. I think I’ll be covering these in Mod Podge or at least a piece of wax paper from now on XD
I ACTUALLY WROTE A THING THIS MONTH. Well, started writing a thing. It affectionately bears the nickname ‘Puddles’ and will be posted on Wattpad once I finish it and give it a passing edit. It’s a short story that’s actually gonna be pretty long. It involves dragons, trampolines, and worm holes. It’s hilarious and stupid and I love it.
I started reading The 5th Wave and haven’t finished it. I honestly don’t care much for it, I’m just mildly curious to see what happens to Cassie and Evan, and see if Evan’s actually a good buy or a bad guy. And I couldn’t care less about Ben or his story line. I’ve been reading the How To Train Your Dragon books along side watching the Dragons tv show. Annnnnnnnnd I’ve probably read other things but I can’t remember them.
During July I FINALLY FILMED AND UPLOADED AND POSTED MY BULLET JOURNAL FLIP THROUGH VLOG. Omo, you guys have no idea what I went through to get that posted. My phone has really low memory, so I had to film two videos and then splice them (having about 0.5% of any video editing knowledge) and then fiddle with a few other things (I learned a lot! I think I have about 7% knowledge now) before uploading it to Youtube.
The thing is, people, unless videos are really really TINY (in terms of storage size) it literally takes 89 YEARS TO UPLOAD. I knew it would take a while so I started the upload and went about my business.
And then my computer //disabled it’s wifi adapter// and I couldn’t fix it for like three days.
So I start uploading the video again and it takes about two and a half days. For a few hours during that time, our power went out, so that halted the upload process (thankfully I didn’t have to completely start over though).
BASICALLY I POURED BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS INTO THAT VIDEO. It’s only the first in a three or more part series, but I THINK you will all understand my aversion and procrastination of starting work on the second one XD
Oh, oh, I almost forgot! (Actually I did forget and am now coming back to add this) I AM OFFICIALLY AN AFFILIATE LINKER. Or whatever term means I’m going to put affiliate links into my blog posts when I recommend books or products or whatever. I’M SO EXCITED. AAHHHHHH.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with what an affiliate link is, it just means that if you were to click on the link and buy the item, I would receive a small sum at no extra cost to you. AWESOME, RIGHT?
And now I come to my biggest news of all.
I closed my Etsy shop.
Don’t have a heart attack on me, there.
But yes, I temporarily closed my Etsy shop to concentrate on getting more inventory up and also to create hype for it’s reopening on November 1st, just in time for Christmas sales! (And there is also the slight, teensy, WEENSY possibility– more of a ‘hope’ right now, really– that I might get a real official actual WEBSITE by then!)
I’m kinda afraid of losing potential sales, but honestly I haven’t had very many sales through my Etsy shop anyway, so I’m telling myself to shut up. AND if someone desperately needs something from me, I will be happy to oblige XD Also I just made a listing for beaded dragons and I’m thinking those will be popular so… whatever. For you lovely followers, I will always be open for making you anything you want. (Especially dragons. Dragons are very important. Also adorable. Look how adorable.)
(SO CUTE TINY DRAGON)
Anyway. That’s what’s happening with my Etsy store.
NOW. FOR A NEW EXCITING THING.
(I don’t have a fancy header for this section yet so calm yourself. I’ll get there.)
I meant to do this last month and FORGOTTED but I wrote myself a reminder to include it in this recap. This section will be dedicated to things I hope to accomplish, or are coming up, in the new month.
Without further ado, my goals for August:
- Film, edit, upload, and post My Bullet Journal Vlog Part 2
- Finish the dragon I started making a few days ago.
- List this anklet in my shop.
- Finish reading Pariah.
- Get up at 6:30am every morning until it becomes a habit.
- Increase my inventory of ear cuffs to 30.
That’s all I have for you this month! I love you guys.
